Programs
READY STEADY GO has been designed by professionals to introduce children to sport in a fun but structured environment. Pre-school aged children practice gross and fine motor skills, posture, balance, eye-hand co-ordination and sportsmanship.
- Ready Steady Go is designed to include 5 sports per term (2 weeks in a row of each sport in a 10 week term). At this age there is no expectation for your child to become an "expert" in each sport.
- Two weeks is enough to introduce the sports and reinforce basic concepts and motor patterns.
- Some children are naturally more suited to some sports more than others and by rotating sports each 2 weeks we decrease the risk of young children becoming disinterested in a particular activity.
- Rather than choosing one sport and committing a whole term to that sport or activity, RSG provides exposure to ten different sports.
The sports included in the Ready Steady Go program are:
SOCCER, TENNIS, CRICKET, TEEBALL, RUGBY/AFL, GOLF, ATHLETICS, BASKETBALL, HOCKEY

Ready Steady Go's Aims are to:
- Introduce children to a variety (10) of different sports in a structured, safe environment.
- Teach children that sport and physical activity are fun.
- Introduce and encourage age-appropriate gross motor skills, body awareness and correct posture at all times.
- Teach children the importance of warm-up and stretching to help prevent injuries.
- Teach the importance of good sportsmanship and team work when playing sport and games.
- Continue to grow so that every Australian child can benefit from the Ready Steady Go program.
On completion of the program your child should:
- have developed an understanding of a variety of sports
- have improved basic skills and movement patterns that form the foundation of all sporting activities.
- be confident to participate in structured physical activity and sport.
- be ready to develop their passion for sport further through structured community and school sports programs.
Ready Steady Go's Programs Have Age-Appropriate Classes:
2.5 - 3 years
3 - 4 years
4 - 5 years
- The 2.5 - 3 year olds require quite a bit of attention and need their parent on the court in the early stages. This can be quite distracting for a 3-4 year old so we always separate these groups. In addition to the physical benefits, other pluses for the 2.5 - 3 year olds include being introduced to group activities, listening to instructions, learning to take-turns, and gaining increasing independence and confidence.
- The 3 - 4 year old program requires more independence and spends an increasing amount of time focusing on the essential skills of the different sports.
- The 4 - 5 year old program is more challenging and keeps them interested and learning through to school age.
Ready Steady Go is Non-Competitive and Non-Contact
- Our philosophy is to make a child's introduction to structured sport a fun and positive experience.
Ready Steady Go's Programs are Structured
- The program has an overall structure that is repeated each week so that children become familiar and comfortable with the routine.
- The individual sports/games/gross motor/ balance activities are varied within the overall routine to provide variety within the structure.
Small Classes
- We have a maximum student/coach ratio of 6:1.
(Exceptions are in the 4-5 year age group at appropriate venues when a ratio of 7:1 may occur, or when a staff member is unable to attend at short notice e.g. sick leave).

Classes Run Indoors
- We have chosen to do this so our environment is controlled - rain, hail or shine, you can plan your week reliably as Ready Steady Go will always be on. Learning sports skills is challenging enough for little ones, without adding the influence of the outdoor elements (e.g. wind, rain, uneven surfaces, sun glare).
Equipment
- Ready Steady Go is able to source the highest quality age-appropriate equipment to ensure safe and reliable sport. We have strong relationships with suppliers of sports and educational products.
Parents Involvement
- Parents or guardians are required to stay for the duration of every class. Ready Steady Go is not a registered child care provider and is therefore not licenced to care for children without parental or guardian supervision.
- Regardless of this we like parents to attend because:
- children love to have carers encourage and watch them.
- children can feel anxious and nervous initially in group situations.
- parents can learn some of the activities and introduce them into play at home
- over the years we have been thanked for allowing parents to be active or passive participants and they get great enjoyment from watching their children.
Ready Steady Go Drink Bottle
- A free Ready Steady Go drink bottle is given to every child in the first term they enrol. Hydration whilst playing sport is very important and we encourage you to bring your child’s drink bottle with water to each class. This is a way of introducing the concept of fluid intake whilst playing sport.
Ready Steady Go's Success
- Established in 2004 in Sydney, Ready Steady Go has grown rapidly in Sydney, Melbourne and now Adelaide.
- Whilst other small, local programs have come and gone Ready Steady Go has grown from strength-to-strength. We believe our growth and success reflects the quality of our program.
